| Review: | If an old Western town train station and modern brewery had a love child, it’s name would be Borderlands. Full of character and charm, Borderlands’ downtown Tucson taproom was one of my favorite breweries visited in 2023 and is a well deserving recipient for “Top BAB of 2023”. Located in an 1800’s-era produce warehouse, Borderlands is a visual pleasure of texture.
As one initially approaches the entry via a covered walkway protecting you are immediately exposed to the large outdoor courtyard. Mature trees, fabric sunshades, and a combination of high-tops and picnic tables create an inviting shaded oasis from the harsh Arizona sun. Walking into the brewery itself one is surrounded by historic heavy timber beams and trusses and creative wood elements that complement the original red brick walls that create a rustic authentic aesthetic. There are multiple whimsical features such as a wall of personalized mugs for those enrolled in the “Cantina Club”. Diverse spaces ranging from the active main hall to a more private linear side room with a pool table provide a variety of experiential options depending on your mood. Throughout the brewery one will find whimsical and creative art pieces that feel both modern and wild west at the same time.
Borderlands offers Pinches Mexican food onsite as well as live music on the weekend making this a must visit destination for both visitors and locals alike. |
